What is NBN’s Free Fibre Upgrade Scheme?
The NBN fibre upgrade is a free installation that customers can opt into with us at MATE.
There are two types of eligible fibre upgrades, depending on the customer’s address:
-
NBN-Initiated Upgrade for FTTN and FTTC
An NBN-initiated upgrade is a forced fibre upgrade that does not require a 12-month contract. When a customer contacts our sales team, they can choose any NBN plan speed to start the upgrade process.
-
Customer-Initiated Upgrade for FTTN and FTTC
A customer-initiated upgrade requires the customer to opt into a 12-month contract with us. They can choose one of three MATE plan speeds: No Worries, You Beaut, or Fair Dinkum. The customer must agree to the 12-month contract conditions. If the service is cancelled within 12 months of activation, a $220 cancellation fee will be charged by NBN.
What Happens Next?
After your customer signs up with us and speaks to our sales team, an order will be placed with NBN. A new charge for the chosen plan will be added to their monthly invoice. Shortly after, an appointment will be scheduled for a technician to install the NBN PCD box on the external wall, where the underground line connects from the street.
A second appointment will then be arranged to connect the new line from the external PCD to an internal NTD, installed on the inside wall parallel to the external PCD.
Once Completed
Once the upgrade is complete, the customer needs to connect their modem/router to the NTD using a Cat 5 or Cat 6 Ethernet cable.
Old FTTN or FTTC Connection
After the new service is activated, the customer’s previous service will be automatically disconnected. A credit will be applied for the unused days in the current billing cycle, and a pro rata credit will apply for the new service technology once activated.
